Forbes celebrates 4 African presidents, showbiz stars

The African entertainment landscape is set to change permanently with the launch of EbonyLife TV. This is coming even as many leading lights in media, entertainment, business, innovation, politics and the economy on the continent, most especially, Nigeria have been earmarked for honour and recognition.

The first global black entertainment channel, EbonyLife TV, is scheduled for launch in Lagos on June 30, 2013. However, the launch will be heralded by the celebration of important personalities who have and continue to have significant influence on the entertainment, business, and socio-political landscapes of the African continent.

Coming after months of intense research and thorough verification exercise by Forbes, EbonyLife TV will confer awards on distinguished African personalities, which include President Goodluck Jonathan, for supporting Nigerian media and entertainment industry; Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, for presiding over a country selected as one of the best to do business in, globally; South African President, Jacob Zuma, for presiding over the first African country to host the FIFA World Cup; and Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, for presiding over one of the best countries to do business in, globally.

Others are Tope Shonubi, Tonye Cole and Ade Odunsi, founders of Sahara Energy Resources Limited for their contribution to the Oil & Gas industry; Isabel Dos Santos, for being the richest woman in Africa; Uzoamaka Maduka and Toyin Odutola, for being young African achievers, and Joke Silva, for her contribution to the development of film and TV industry in Africa.

For their contribution to the development of African music, King Sunny Ade, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey, Onyeka Onwenu, Sir Victor Olaiya and Tuface Idibia will receive awards while Deola Sagoe will be honoured for her contribution to the development of African fashion.

On July 1, 2013, EbonyLife TV will formally launch on the DSTV platform on Channel 165 to a Pan African viewership. Governments and corporate organisations throwing their weights behind the TV channel include the Cross River State Government, MTN, Nigerian Breweries and the United States Government.

“EbonyLife TV, which will sit exclusively on the DStv platform, will immediately be transmitting to and watched in over 46 African countries and by over eight million viewers. EbonyLife TV’s roll out distribution strategy also includes major international platforms in the United Kingdom, United States, Brazil, Canada and other parts of Europe,” Ms Abudu stressed.
